Free event - NYC Photography Icons
Date: May 31st, 7PM - 9PM EST
Location: School of Visual Arts Theatre, 333 West 23rd Street, NYC
For over six decades, Jay Maisel's images have expressed the color, grit, gesture and joy of New York City and countless international destinations in advertising, editorial and corporate communications imagery. Blending the classic New Yorker’s personality of gruffness, honesty and charm, Maisel has inspired countless photographers to see more clearly, work harder and photograph with greater dedication. Arguably the most successful photographer that Jay Maisel has mentored, Stephen Wilkes has built an unprecedented body of work and is one of America’s most iconic photographers, widely recognized for his fine art and editorial and commercial work. The iconic quality and unique artistic style in every print of their work is unmistakable.
This presentation brings together these two masters of lens, light and print for a unique and very special evening of inspiration and images, and a first glimpse into the documentary film that narrates the journey of Maisel’s studio move from historic Bank Building at 190 Bowery lovingly directed by Wilkes.
