Cables, Adaptors, & Interface Kits

X-Rite produces a vast assortment of cables. It seems that we sort of grow new cables with every new product. The net result is that we probably have five or six different cables to interface just about anything. Below are listed some workable cable options. If you have something different - - Don't Panic! - - Chances are that your cables and/or adapters are just fine. If we were to attempt to list all possibilities we would have a pretty messy page. The list below is for those shopping for a solution; i.e., starting from scratch.

The HelpDesk attempts to track as many Third Party products as possible. Our list changes almost daily. None-the-less it is there (in the 3rd party section) that you should begin your search.

1    Be careful! Be sure of what you require.  The Macintosh family of computers has evolved from the world of serial device interfaces (RS-232) into the world of the Universal Serial Bus (USB).  Older machines up to and including the family of Power PCs were all serial.  The G3 series could be purchased in either configuration: platinum & beige were serial, blue & white were USB. The iMac and G4 machines are all USB.  Before selecting a cable or kit from the above table, be certain of the interface requirements of your computer!

*Note:
Silicon Graphics workstations (SGI) may be equipped with a variety of different interface ports. The above listed cables only function on SGI platforms that are equipped with an 8c-DIN female (Mac-type) interface port.

**Note:
The DTP92L started out life as a plain old DTP92. I.e., there are two hardware versions in the field. The earlier units (pre-L) were not shipped with power supplies. Rather they used additional cabling and extracted power from the computer's keyboard interface ('KBP - KeyBoardPower'). For the most part this worked well - - there were however enough instances where this didn't work; hence the DTP92L. The DTP92L is shipped with a power supply! It requires fewer cables - - a serial cable only. Users may identify their unit as follows: Turn the unit so that you can see the serial number. In a small type face just beneath the serial number will be printed "DTP92" or "DTP92L".

***Note:   Certain of the SUN workstations are equipped with a 9-pin female (DB9s) interface adaptor.  For this hardware, do not use the SE108-DB9M25M!  Instead purchase part number SE108-DB9MM-01.
****Note:
In 1999 X-Rite introduced a USB model of the popular Monitor Optimizer. This unit is equipped with a non-removable USB cable that terminates in a male connector. It's 100% USB ready for both Mac and PC's that are similarly equipped.

X-Rite produces a vast collection of cables and adapters. This page lists many (but not all) and tries to briefly describe their physical properties and usage. Be aware that there are often several different cables and/or adapters that will yield a successful interface. There are also many ways to do it wrong! Most X-Rite cables require an adapter to complete the interface.

The HelpDesk attempts to track Third Party products as they relate to one or more X-Rite devices. Generally speaking these product specific pages will detail the cabling required to make things go.

One quick and final note: the letter "p" is used to indicate MALE connectors; "p" for pins. The letter "s" is used to indicate FEMALE connectors; "s" for sockets.

This kit provides for the conversion to several other common computer platforms. Review the table at the top of this page for complete details of this kit's usage.

SE108-302 Kit Includes
SE108-92 Ten foot cable: DB9s (female) to 10c/RJ45 (male)
SE08-231 DB25s (female) to DB9p (male) interface adapter

Note... The DTP41 and the 500 series instruments are provided with a power input port that differs from most older X-Rite portables. While these units may be interfaced using the same cables as (say) the 400 series, the older cables will not allow for power input to the units. The SE108-92 cable includes a port for the instrument's power supply. Review the table at the top of this page for complete details of this kit's usage.

SE108-303 Kit Includes
XRC-R8-C020 8 foot cable, Colortron DIP 10c female to DB9s female
SE108-DB9PA DB9p (male) to Mac type 8c-DIN (male) interface adapter

SE08-232 DB25p (male) to DB9s (female) interface adapter

Notes: Older X-Rite instruments were designed with 3.5mm, phone-jack type, power supplies.  Newer equipment use a coaxial (non-arcing), plug type, connector.  If your PC is equipped with a 9-pin serial interface port, then the following cable and adapter yield a cleaner and less expensive option. If your instrument is equipped with a new style power supply, then the (SE108-92) cable is all that is required to complete the interface. .

*** ALTERNATELY YOU MAY USE ***

SE108-92     Ten foot  cable: 10c/RJ45 (male) to DB9s (female) cable with new style coax plug socket for DC power input.
SE108-99 Phone jack (400 type) to coax plug (500 type) power supply interface adapter.
SE08-231 If required:  DB9p (male) to DB25s (female) adaptor - - may be needed for older PC's.

Review the table at the top of this page for complete details of these parts usage.

 MA58-75 Kit Includes
SE108-69 Ten foot cable: 10c/RJ45 (male) to 10c/RJ45 (male)
418-70 DP25p (male) to 10c/RJ45 (female) DCE interface adapter
418-71 DP25s (female) to 10c/RJ45 (female) DCE interface adapter
SE08-232 DB25p (male) to DB9s (female) interface adapter
Notes: The MA58-75 kit differed from the MA58-74 by the addition of a single component.  Added was a DB25p (male) DCE adapter.  The only known usage for this extra part was to complete an interface to some older Hewlett-Packard and Epson serial printers.  With the migration from serial to parallel and now to USB, there is no longer a need to supply these parts.
