- What is the most important aspect of color management that an aspiring photographer should know?
That RGB and CMYK are not values of colors, but only numbers, which generate different colors on different devices.
- Give an example of the ways in which a solid knowledge of color management (or an accurate color environment) helped you – on a project? In a consultancy situation?
A famous fashion company, to which I was consultant, designs its products (sweaters, shirts etc..) only with a textile CAD software. For them it is very important that the color you see on the monitor is the same as what is printed on paper and both are equal to the final product. In this case I was able to use my knowledge to help them set the color and profile their monitors, printers and do various test.

- How important are the latest color management tools in today’s industry? Why?
I'm very happy with i1Display Pro, because it's practical to use, light and precise.
- What does the (near) future hold for the photo industry, in your opinion? Do you think color management will be more or less important – why?
Probably the color management process will become a more complete treatment of color, perhaps built-in cameras.

- Quando per la prima volta hai compreso l’importanza del colore nel processo fotografico?
Da sempre, ma ho iniziato ad occuparmi di colore negli anni 80, quando sono usciti i primi monitor a colori commerciali.
- Qual è l’aspetto più importante della gestione del colore che un aspirante fotografo dovrebbe conoscere?
Che i valori RGB e CMYK non sono colori, ma solo numeri, che generano colori diversi su periferiche diverse.
- Puoi farci un esempio in cui solide conoscenze di gestione del colore (o un accurato ambiente colore) ti hanno aiutato nella realizzazione di un progetto? E in una situazione di consulenza?
Una famosa azienda di moda, a cui ho fatto consulenza, progetta i suoi prodotti (golfini, camicie, ecc.) solo ed esclusivamente al computer, con un CAD tessile. Per loro è molto importante che il colore che si vede a monitor sia uguale a quello che si stampa su carta ed entrambi siano uguali al prodotto finale. In questo caso ho potuto sfruttare le mie conoscenze sul colore per aiutarli ad impostare e profilare i loro software, i monitor e le varie stampanti di prova.

- Quanto sono importanti gli ultimi strumenti per la gestione del colore nel tuo lavoro quotidiano? Perché?
Sono stato molto contento di i1Display Pro, per la sua praticità, leggerezza e precisione.
- Che cosa ci porterà – a tuo parer – il futuro dell’industria fotografica? Pensi che la gestione del colore sarà più o meno importante di oggi? Perché?
Probabilmente la gestione del colore diventerà un processo più completo di trattamento del colore, magari incorporato nelle fotocamere.
