+Adding Profiles to ColorPicker

Adding your own custom profiles to your Color Munki Photo ColorPicker is a great way to ensure that the colors you are printing are achievable with your printer. Under Proofing in the lower right hand side you can click on the PrintSafe pull down menu and select a profile that represents your output device. For example you can select US Web Coated SWOP v2, all colors that are out of gamut will shade out to gray.

This is particularly useful if you have your own custom profiles for your devices and would like to see what colors are affected in the PrintSafe mode. The following instructions are here to help you locate your profiles and have them appear in the pull down for future use.

MAC USERS

  1. If open, quit "ColorMunki Photo".
  2. Make a new folder on your desktop (File > New Folder) named "DeviceProfiles" - the naming convension needs to appear exactly like that, capital "D" and capital "P" with out any spaces.
  3. Find your custom profiles located at:
         Macintosh HD/Users/<username>/Library/ColorSync/Profiles     Or . . . Macintosh HD/Library/ColorSync/Profiles
  4. Make a copy of the profiles that you want and move them into the DeviceProfiles folder you just created.
*Make sure to copy them instead of move them, you can do this by doing an Edit copy, and then paste them into the DeviceProfiles folder; or you can do a right click/control click Duplicate then drag the copy into the DeviceProfiles folder.
  5. Drag the new DeviceProfiles folder from your desktop into this folder:
         Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Colormunki
When you do this a dialog appears "The item "DeviceProfiles" could not be moved because "Colormunki" cannot be modified". Click Authenticate. The folder should then appear in the Colormunki folder and listed with Photo and Plugins folders.
  6. Re-launch Color Munki Photo ColorPicker. Under Proofing in the lower right hand side you will see a pull down for PrintSafe, there you should find your newly placed custom ICC profiles.
  7. To see which colors will print safely on your printer simply select your profile from the menu and those colors that will be out of gamut will shade out to gray.
